Describe the term neuromuscular synapse?
Expert
Neuromuscular synapse is the structure via which the neural impulse passes from the axon of a motor neuron to muscle cell. This structure is as well termed as neuromuscular junction, or motor end plate. Since in the nervous synapse, the axonal terminal membrane liberates the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the cleft among the two cells. Acetylcholine joins to particular receptors of the muscle membrane, dependent sodium channels then open and the depolarization of muscle membrane starts. The impulse is then transmitted to the sarcoplasmic reticulum which liberates calcium ions into the sarcomeres of the myofibrils therefore triggering contraction.
