The RC2 is a variable key-size block cipher made by Rivest for RSA Data Security. RC signifies for ‘Ron's Code’ or ‘Rivest's Cipher’. This is faster than DES and is designed as a ‘drop-in’ replacement for DES. This can be made safer or less safe than DES against exhaustive key search by using suitable key sizes. This consists of a block size of 64 bits and is around two to three times quicker than DES in software. Algorithm is confidential and proprietary to the RSA Data Security. The RC2 can be employed in similar modes as DES.
