It signifies to the allocation of computer resources in a time dependent fashion to some programs concurrently. This is a special case of multiprogramming where the single CPU serves a number of users at interactive terminals at similar time. The fundamental idea behind the time sharing systems is to permit all user programs to encompass a brief share of CPU time in turns. The CPU is switched over the jobs on the bases of scheduling methods (such as round robin scheduling). The time interval given to each job is termed as time slice or time quantum. The switching of jobs is termed as context switching. Time sharing provides better utilization then the multiprogramming.
