Expert
Centrioles are small cylindrical structures made up of nine microtubule triplets. They emerge in pairs in the cell. Centrioles contribute in the making of cytoskeleton and of flagella and cilia. In cell division they play a significant role in the making of the aster fibers. Centrioles are structures existed in animal cells, in most of the protists and in various primitive fungi. There are no centrioles in cells of higher plants and in common it is considered that plant cells do not contain centrioles (though this is not totally correct as some plants contain centriole-containing cells). The area where the centrioles are situated is termed as the centrosome of cell.
