Define Local Area Network or LAN

Local Area Network (LAN): It supplies networking capability to a group of computers in close immediacy to each other like in an office building, a school, or a home. The LAN is helpful for sharing resources such as printers, files, games or other applications. The LAN in turn frequently connects to other LANs, and to Internet or other WAN.

Most of the local area networks are built with relatively cheap hardware like Ethernet cables, network adapters, and hubs. The Wireless LAN and other more advanced LAN hardware options too exist.
