The plant cell whenever placed beneath hypertonic medium loses a high quantity of water and its cell membrane detaches from the cell wall. In that condition the cell is termed as plasmolysed cell. Whenever the plasmolysed cell is placed beneath hypertonic medium it absorbs water and becomes a turgid cell. This phenomenon is termed as deplasmolysis.
