When, an assembly is deployed in the GAC in order to share it, a strong name is required to be allotted to it for its unique identification. Strong name consists of an assembly's complete identity - the, version number, assembly name and culture information of the assembly. Digital signature and Public key, generated over the assembly, are present in the strong name. Strong name makes an assembly identical in the GAC.
