The BIOS and CMOS are often times considered as the same thing, however they are not. They are two different elements of the computer, however they do work together to make the computer function properly. The CMOS is also the computer chip over the motherboard, however more specifically, it is the RAM chip. This is the type of memory chip which stores information regarding the computer components, also different settings for those components and other variables. Though, normal RAM chips lose the information that is stored in them when the power is no longer supplied to them.
