Most of the bacteria are heterotroph; they do not make their own food. There are as well autotroph bacteria: photosynthetic or chemosynthetic. Some photosynthetic bacteria, such as cyanobacteria, make photosynthesis similar to plants do, employing water. Others, the sulphur photosynthetic bacteria, employ hydrogen sulphide (H2S) rather than water.
