Error control is both the error detection and correction. It permits the receiver to inform the sender of any frames damaged or lost in transmission and co-ordinates the retransmission of such frames by the sender. In data link layer, the word error control signifies primarily to the techniques of retransmission and error detection. Error control in the data link layer is frequently implemented simply.
Any time an error is detected in an exchange, particular frames are then retransmitted. This method is termed as automatic repeat request (or ARQ).
