Antigen-antibody interaction is same as that of the enzyme substrate interaction. The reaction between the antigen and antibody takes place in two stages. Primary stage is initial interaction of the antigen-antibody without having any visible effect .The reaction is quick and follows the general law of the thermodynamics and the physical chemistry.

The primary stage is followed by a secondary stage leading to the demonstrate events like lysis of cells, precipitation, neutralization of toxins and the fixation of compliments and so on.
