Read "Gospel of Matthew" and Paul's "Letter to the Romans" in the Christian Bible. Then read the selection from Stanley Hauerwas and William Willimon, Resident Aliens.
Now, write an essay (500 to 750 words) comparing the Hauerwas and Willimon text with Paul's "Letter to the Romans." What assumptions are found in Paul's letter? What assumptions are found or not found in Resident Aliens. Are there any similarities? What does Matthew's description of Jesus life (aimed at the Jews) tell us about the continuing need to convince the "other" to accept the claims of Christianity?
