The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize you with SOP development and allow you to demonstrate a working knowledge of it by creating an SOP IAW ATP3-90.90.

Background Information

A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), "is a clearly written set of instructions for methods detailing the procedures for carrying out a routine or recurring task or study"(ATP 3-90.90). SOPs are used to define tasks ranging from inspections to cleaning duties. There are two types of SOPs: technical (to explain ways to perform duties in research labs and other such areas) and administrative. Each SOP requires information so that new users can be properly trained and regular users can be reminded, and provide continuity among military members

Scenarios

1.SFC Smith welcomes you into the Evacuation platoon and asks you to begin drafting an SOP on how to properly layout the Basic Issue Items (BII) and Medical Equipment Set (MES) for the command10% monthly inventories of the evacuation platforms. You head to the motor pool of 1-32 Infantry Bn., and noticed that you are assignedan M997 (Four Litter Ambulance). SFC Smith wants to see your SOP by the end of the duty day.

2.You are a newly promoted Staff Sergeant in your Battalion of 2-8 CAV (CAB) in Ft. Hood, Texas. You are called to the 1SG office for a quick meeting. Upon arrival, your 1SG tells you that he is tasking you with writing an SOP for entering and exiting a UH-60 A/L Blackhawk Helicopter.
