Assignment - Write a technical Report
Assignment Overview: Using your proposal assignment, you will write a formal recommendation report in which you analyze your topic and make a recommendation to your audience. The report will compare two to three products. These products will be analyzed by using the purchasing parameters outlined in your proposal and by using primary and secondary research. After you have analyzed the products, you will make a recommendation based on the research presented in your report. Please write at the non-technical level.
Technical Report Requirements:
Below are the components you will include in your technical report. The body of the report (i.e. main chapters) will be approximately 5 pages in length. The total report will be approximately 10-12 pages in length. Please single-space your writing.
Prefatory Components -
- Cover Page
- Letter of Transmittal
- Abstract
- Table of Contents
- List of Illustrations
Main Chapters (i.e. body) -
Introduction
- Purpose; background information; research methodologies and limitations; audience
Analysis -
- You will compare the products through specific criteria (i.e. price, warranty, ease-of-use, safety, etc.)
- You will have in-text citations
- You will incorporate at least five graphics
Conclusions
Recommendation
Supplementary Components -
- Glossary (sentence definitions)
- Appendices (if necessary)
- References Page (IEEE)
Design Elements:
Pagination
- Prefatory elements use Roman Numerals, centred at the bottom of the page.
- Body pages use Arabic Numerals, centred at the bottom of the page.
- Supplementary pages use Arabic Numerals, centred at the bottom of the page.
Headings
- First level headings are centred at the top of the page in upper case and are bold. (i.e. 1.0 INTRODUCTION).
- Second level headings are at the left margin, in upper and lower case, and are bold (i.e. 2.1 Description of .........).
- Third level headings are indented from the left margin to set them apart from the second level and are bold (i.e. 2.1.1 Types of ......).
