On the basis of the information presented in this and past units about fluvial, desert (called aeolian), and coastal processes, are there certain areas of the Earth that should not be used for human development or settlement? If so, which ones and why not? If not, why? Are there any conditions under which development should be limited? What type of environmental analysis is needed for rational development and growth in a floodplain or delta, an arid landscape, or a coastal area?
