Dorothy Morison
Your assignment is to read and analyze the case, "Dorothy Morison." You will be handing in a hard copy the last day of class.
• Identify Dorothy's main problem and the symptoms of the problem.
• Use theories and concepts (Leadership theories, from the class to help explain the problem, e.g. conflict, power, leadership, and organizational change (there is only a little information given in the case about leadership). You might also find that some of the material on communication and personality is useful.
• Make sure you address the following issues:
1 -What types of conflict exist in the case? What are the causes?
2 -What style of conflict resolution does Dorothy use?
3 -What sources of power does Dorothy have? Which does she use
• If Dorothy could start all over, what do you think she should do? Use class concepts to explain your conclusions. Is there anything that needs to be done at higher levels?
• Given the situation that has occurred, is there anything Dorothy can do to turn it around? Should she start looking for a new job?
The paper should be approximately 7 pages, double-spaced. You will be graded based on the following:
• Clarity and organization
• Grammar and spelling.
• Application of readings and class material in interesting and insightful ways.
• Adequate theoretical/logical justifications for the solutions. Were the solutions realistic?
