Capstone Experience
Description of deliverables:

In my capstone project, I will:
1. evaluate the challenges and effects of diversity in researched small U.S. multinational
organizations;
2. analyze levels of diversity within several companies in multiple industries;
3. construct a body of evidence from the project research;
4. apply what is learned in interviews towards agreeing with or refuting project research;
5. assess the varying degree of diversity as it relates to organizational performance; and
6. propose a conclusion that answers all the questions raised during project inception.
The final paper: Your project paper - written in the 3rd person - is submitted in 3 stages: A 15 page [or more] draft called "week 4 version", a final draft version [of 40 or more pages of narrative] called "week 6 version," and the Final, complete paper. You may submit these at any time before they are due. If any assignments are late, a 10 percent deduction will be applied to your score no matter what the reason. The final, completes paper will be not be accepted late beyond the deadline.
Near the end of week 4, September 27, a draft is to be submitted of narrative [i.e., your Introduction plus a substantial portion of your Lit Review, plus the current references. I'll be able to give you advice on content, writing style, etc. after seeing this draft.
Because projects and papers vary so much, it is difficult to provide specific details of what is acceptable. Here are a few ranges, as well as minimums:
? APA format, style and grammatical guidelines [e.g., avoid use of "I", "you", "we" etc.]
? 45-60 pages of body in length is typical (not including title page, abstract or references)
(Requirements: 40 pp, including 25 pp. Review of Literature minimum) This quantitative standard is a course requirement - no exceptions.
? The "Introduction" to the paper will typically run about two pages.
? Three pages of references is typical [absolute minimum of 2, maximum of 5].
? Analytical components are required. Examples include:
- Pro Forma financial statements
- Financial analysis (i.e. ratios)
- Survey - quantifiable results
- Raw data - statistical analysis
- Benchmarking analysis
- Modeling techniques
Course Content
Project - Students will complete, in consultation with me, the project briefly outlined in your approved Intent Form. Detailed project objectives will be developed by the student and approved by me.

This will be a research project exploring the question: What are the challenges of diversity in a small U.S. organization that does business overseas and how does diversity effect overall organizational performance?
Specific questions that will be addressed in the study are:
1. What is diversity in the workplace?
2. How will diversity help a small organization compete globally?
3. How does diversity affect employee recruitment in a small multinational organization?
4. How does a small multinational organization create workplace diversity?
5. How does a small multinational organization gauge the success of its diversity program?
6. How does a small multinational organization manage global diversity?
7. How will diversity in a small multinational organization affect its overall performance?
Potential Benefits
The research, findings, and conclusions of this project will provide insights and guidelines that could improve the effectiveness of small multinational businesses as they integrate diversity into their workforce. The improved effectiveness could lead organizations to cost savings, better recruitment, and stronger management of their diversity programs.
Methods of Gathering Information
Preliminary research indicates that this topic has had extensive exploration and many scholarly articles written on diversity and its effects in the workplace. I will employ the following method of gathering information:

1. The challenges of workplace diversity and how it effects overall organizational performance.
2. The management of diversity in a global organization.
Through the extensive research, I anticipate the following outcomes:
1. Knowledge of how diversity helps a small multinational organization compete,
2. Knowledge of how diversity affects employee recruitment within a small multinational organization,
3. Knowledge of how a small multinational organization creates workplace diversity,
4. Knowledge of how a small multinational organization gauges the success of its workplace diversity program,
