Upbringing the most important factor to teaching

Problem: Upbringing is the most important factor because, through psychology I learned that in the first seven years of life children learn how adults behave and then they imitate them. The first example that comes to my mind is the fact that my parents taught me to always be polite, grateful and careful with others and others property, and that always everything can be recycled. Based on those premises from my early childhood, I behave today and conduct myself accordingly; therefore, I taught my children to recycle and be careful with others' property. My stepson comes from a different environment and he does not have the habit of recycling, and he always takes things that belong to others. Upbringing is a factor that "burns with fire" in us to teach things that we are going to keep in the future. Explain.
