The project assignment in this class is to find an area in database programming and/or design that interests you, and expand upon it. This may be the development of a working system of your own to provide information, or a study of an existing database system.
The report that is turned in may be an operations manual describing how your own system runs, or an analysis of the system you are studying. The report may include conceptual models, a data dictionary describing the fields in the system, and explanations of the thought process behind the database.
- While working on this project, some of the questions that might need to be answered include:
- What steps were taken in the design?
- What kind of analysis was done in advance of designing the database?
- Who is the intended user? What benefit will be realized by implementing this system?
- How much is it going to cost to implement this system?
- These are questions your boss might ask of any new system.
The project may be developed for any platform, using any database software. When analyzing an existing database, explain the relationships between the tables that compose the database. The report you turn in should be between 12 and 15 pages, double spaced. This can include any models, drawings, etc.
Be prepared to share your project with the class on the provided discussion board, and answer any questions asked concerning your project. The project is due by December 2nd, and will not be accepted after Dec 5th without a VERY good excuse.
