Knowing and understanding school district policies is vital as an administrator. To become better familiarized with these policies, it is important to open the lines of communication with district-level officials to invite guidance from these colleagues. Specifically, learning about the development and revision process for the district manual as well as the major responsibilities associated with the role of the principal will better equip you for your future leadership role.

Allocate at least 2 hours in the field to support this field experience.

Review the school board policy manual for your district. Interview a district-level official and discuss the process for creating and updating the manual. In the interview, discuss major areas that affect the day-to-day duties and functions of school principals.

Share your interview schedule with your principal mentor. Use any remaining field experience hours to observe and/or assist the principal mentor in tasks not related to working with students.

Complete a 250 to 500 words summary of the interview and reflect on your experiences. Incorporate PSEL Standard 9 into your reflection and describe how you will apply what you have learned to your future professional practice.

The response should include a reference list. Using double-space, Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
