Part B. Edward Snowden - Spy or Whistleblower? (75 Words)

In 2013, Edward Snowden left his job at an NSA facility in Hawaii and flew to Hong Kong. A month later, Snowden revealed thousands of classified NSA documents to three journalists; Glenn Greenwald, Laura Poitras and EwenMacAskill. The case gained international attention after stories based on the material provided by Snowden appeared in The Guardian and The Washington Post. Shortly after this, the U.S. Department of Justice unsealed charges against Snowden which included two counts of violating the Espionage Act of 1917 and theft of government property. Snowden then flew to Moscow where Russian authorities granted him asylum. Obviously a subject of great controversy, Snowden has been called many things, depending upon who you ask. Some call him a hero, some a whistleblower, some a dissident, some a patriot, and others a traitor. His release of this classified information has fueled debates over surveillance, government secrecy, and the balance between national security and information privacy.

Part E. Asymetrical Warfare (75 Words)

We all have heard the term, "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter." Some say the American Revolutionaries who fought the Revolutionary War against England were "Freedom Fighters" while others say they were "terrorist" (they were some of the first to use guerilla tactics in warfare). Some say "asymmetrical warfare" is a legitimate tactic when used by those who are oppressed by a group or government who has too much military might to overcome that persecution.

INSTRUCTIONS

State what the phrase "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" means to you. Also, state what your definition of "asymmetrical warfare" is and if you think it is ever a legitimate tactic. If so, under what circumstances? If not, state why.

Give an actual example to support your position.
