NON PROFIT MARKETING DISCUSSION BOARD

Please I need good and quality answers. Also please I want good citation and good references. I want it in APA format.

Read:

What if technology made marketing obsolete, what if technology enabled all 4 P's of the marketing mix to happen with very little intervention from us marketing folks? We are not at that point today, but marketing technology is moving us closer to that point. We already have the technology to support monetary transactions (price) at any time or place. Services like Boku a mobile phone becomes a cash register, enabling users to tap a purchase that is charged to their mobile bill, no credit card or bank account involved. A similar service connects your mobile purchase right to your credit card Phoneswipe. SIM cards can even be used to transfer funds without a mobile device. In fact this technology in combination with cell phones is used by Givedirectly to send funds directly to individuals in Kenya and Uganda while keeping their marketing costs extremely low. Goodventures is a new foundation that just matched Give Directly's campaign with a $5million dollar match of funds.

In combination with price (place) is also no longer a physical entity. We can purchase items at GAP while driving down the New Jersey Turnpike, okay that is my example. But the same goes for nonprofit's. While riding on Amtrak I read an article in their branded magazine Amtrak Arrive, and immediately decided to donate to the cause, Oklahoma Humane Society. So at any place, anytime a nonprofit now has the ability to send a message and receive a response. Social media like Facebook and Twitter have made this possible as conduits of direct-feed information, real-time information and taking word-of-mouth (promotion) to a whole new level. One last marketing-mix P to mention is Product. When it comes to nonprofit's most offer products in the form of a service, providing aid, support, learning a skill, caring for animals, children, homeless (vulnerable populations), or encouraging a change in behavior such as quitting smoking. One organization we mentioned in a previous conference is Blackbaud which manages to deliver solutions for all aspects of the marketing-mix.

The internet has allowed people to come together in many ways, one pertaining to nonprofit's it the ability to volunteer. No when the mood strikes you to help out it is easier than ever to find a nonprofit that is looking for your help! One such site is Volunteer Match it provides the opportunities to find volunteer situations at some of those very nonprofit's you found locally in the first conference.

What about those databases used in marketing, how is that data gathered? Here is an excellent Wall Street Journal article about data Gathering that data for databases. If you are not in the mood to volunteer, perhaps you are in the mood to donate money to a charitable organization. And now the decision to support or even create a charitable source is easier than ever thanks to crowdfunding. The technology that has enabled target audiences and the general public to support a cause, makes donating funds an efficient and easy process. Here is additional information on this subject that you should know about Market research and crowdfunding.

I could not resist ending this Topic on the discussion of social media and how it has affected one aspect that students might find meaningful, college admissions, this is a very interesting discussion of that subject Social media and college admissions.

1. Please provide us with one example of how a nonprofit (your choice) might use Snapchat.
A. If I was in charge of the Duxford Imperial War Museum, I would use snapchat to send videos of aircraft in flight, with good audio of the engine noise. As the plane disappears of the screen, I would have text following it with info such as HELP...Volunteers needed!, or maybe advertise the date of the next show. Either way, I would provide the website. This platform has good merit as it disappears quickly, so those interested can be directed to the website, without clogging up your phone with unwanted texts. It seems an unintrusive way to communicate.

There were no advertised opportunities in my local area in the UK on the volunteer match website. I am however volunteering with the Imperial War Museum(IWM) at Duxford to help maintain the WW2 aircraft in the American hangar. This is a great opportunity to do what I really like, which combines mechanical engineering and world war 2 history.

3. Is there a technology that works best for you? And why? Is it social media? Is it traditional direct mail? Is it visiting a website? In other words, work it backwards, assume your chosen nonprofit is trying to reach you.
The IWM has a lot of specialized needs as it maintains world war 2 equipment, so I would use targeted data with key words like Air Force, veterans, engineers, etc. to target veteran and military specific social websites or organizations. Once I had that data, I would email those groups to get members info. My info would push people towards the website, which would further detail the specific needs the IWM is seeking. This targeted info drive would be very effective because it goes after specific people who would likely match needs to volunteers.

I'm going to refer back to my original choice of NPO, American Red Cross. One way that the ARC can use Snapchat would be to post behind the scenes or live "what's happening now" videos at any events that the ARC is participating in, for example, a blood drive. If a local ARC organization is hosting a blood drive at a local business, both the local chapter and local business can team up and send the short video of the event to tell people how much fun it is and asking people to show up, donate blood, and just make it a fun and memorable event. The local business would get free advertising to its customers as well as the ARC getting participants to donate blood.

Unfortunately, the Volunteer match site found zero volunteer opportunities in my area of Aviano, Italy. In fact, nothing in Italy could be found. However, I did look up opportunities in my hometown of Pensacola, Florida and found a fun and interesting opportunity. I asked my Mom to try it out, but my Dad had some other words about it. The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind Inc. & America's VetDogs are looking for volunteer families to be weekend puppy raisers. From Friday to Sunday's, a family will watch and host a guide-dog puppy in training. The puppies are currently being housed and trained during the week by inmates at a correctional facility, as part of an inmate rehabilitation program. The family will take care of the puppy over the weekend to give the training puppies some freedom and the ability to get used to a home environment.

If a non-profit, such as the ARC, were trying to reach me, technology sources would work hand-in-hand to get my attention. Traditional television ads would appeal to me if it were a cause that triggers an emotional response from me. The commercial would have to display its Facebook page in order for me to look the NPO up on social media and its website. Facebook is my primary social media tool of choice, so the NPO would have to use its Facebook page to entice me. If I don't see a TV commercial, a suggested Facebook ad for the NPO would also entice me to view the cause, which would lead me to click their organization's link for the website for information.

Ocean Conservancy - Snapchat (which I use daily) is a great resource of posting events that are happening in real time. This organization could take advantage of that and use it to promote things they are doing at the current time. I would love to look at snaps of them doing community service to clean the ocean or just in general some snaps of wildlife thriving and showing that their organization is making a difference. Snapchat would allow the viewer to get a good insight of what is actually happening with the funds that are donated to the non-profit. It's one thing for you donate and here where the money is going, but it's altogether different to see the money actually being put to use.

Flying Dog Rescue - Virginia Beach, VA. The volunteer page says all you need is a computer and a phone. It would be interesting to see exactly all you would be doing with those requirements. I personally love dogs, as long as they don't knock me over (the big ones). This program says it's flexible and can work with any schedule.

3. Is there a technology that works best for you? And why? Is it social media? Is it traditional direct mail? Is it visiting a website? In other words, work it backwards, assume your chosen nonprofit is trying to reach you.
Technology that works best for me is anything I can pull up on my mobile phone. There aren't too many hours in the day when i don't have my phone close by. Although I check my email on a regular, the best way for me to see something is to post an article on Facebook. I spend about a good 5 hrs a day on Facebook just looking through posts and if it catches my eye, then I may be inclined to read it. If the article has a website attached, I will more than likely go ahead and browse the website as well.

I'm going to carry on with my research on Brandman University. They could make extremely good use of Snapchat. A key component of the software, is that the pictures and videos are automatically removed from the hardware, they free up the space thus eliminating any storage problems. This would work wonders for a huge organization like Brandman. Marketers could snap several times a day from every single campus - things such as the building and its name, a classroom shot, a single student shot, etc. However, for the growing online student population, the app might not be as engaging.

There are no volunteer opportunities in my neck of the woods, and I doubt there are any at all in this country for the location I searched for was Tokyo. If there aren't any here, then it's unlikely there are some in other areas.

3. Is there a technology that works best for you? And why? Is it social media? Is it traditional direct mail? Is it visiting a website? In other words, work it backwards, assume your chosen nonprofit is trying to reach you.
The technology that works best for me are websites. There's no doubt that a lot of the time, social media influences my decision to use websites, but it's the actual websites themselves that buy me. I think a whole lot more credit needs to be given to those companies who create a full and comprehensive website which includes everything we could ask for. In addition to being informative, the website must also be easily navigated, engaging, and make vital use of videos and virtual tours.
