Persuasive communication

Problem: In order to have persuasive communication the presenter must be able to guiding people toward the adoption of an idea, attitude, or action by rational and emotional means. Most of us have excellent communication skills which is a requirement of our daily work and personal lives. However, we are not always able to persuasively communicate with others. Once you know what type of audience you are working with, the desired objective needs to be clearly stated which would assist you in knowing exactly how to get there or bring the message across (Baack, 2012).

Persuasive communication can be a challenge for many people, as for me I think I am good at persuading others and oftentimes I am able to effectively sell my ideas to my boss and have him make a decision about projects or new ventures. Self-confidence regarding your overall communication skills and your knowledge of the subject is important to successfully persuading others. Baack (2012) defined the four steps in the persuasion process as preparation, unfreezing attitudes, moving attitudes and refreezing attitudes. Therefore, once we have the outlined four steps in tact we should be able to persuade others effectively.
