Outline the data you would collect for contextual analysis

Homework

1. You selected a topic for the course's project.

For my final project, I would like to focus on the HighScope curriculum, one of the many standard GSRP curriculums that are used to teach students usually coming into school for the first time; students will begin school around ages 3-4 years old. Within the first 30 days of teaching the students, there is a book that has day to day lesson plans that help the instructor teach the students the basics skills. These simple skills are what help the student learn how to navigate through the basic routine of the classroom.

While instructing the first thirty day book's lesson plan over the last several weeks, I have identified a way to expand the curriculum in the first thirty days. While focusing on social emotional skills as well as some academics, there isn't a lesson plan that addresses ethnicity or different cultures. Oftentimes, the blended factor is overlooked in the classroom because all of the children are reduced to the same term: students, but they offer so much more than that. It is important, especially early on, to bring positive awareness to our differences. Such as teaching about differences in skin tones, types of textures of hair, hair bows & beads, etc. The target audience for this research would be parents of preschool children, especially those parents whose students learn under the HighScope curriculum. I believe this need for expansion in the curriculum can be addressed by introducing a lesson plan in the first 30 days that brings awareness & attention to the students' differences.

2. Now, you need to conduct a needs analysis. A needs analysis is a way of identifying a problem and being able to come up with a probable training or solution for the problem for a specific group of people in an organization (school, hospital, daycare center, nonprofit agency).

Introduce a lesson plan that brings awareness to student's differences, such as their hair color/texture, their skin tones, what names they call their parents & grandparents.

Write a 2 to 4 pages needs analysis in which you:

1. Discuss the learner characteristics that are relevant to designing an effective course for your audience.

a. Educational background: Basic learner skills, beginning to understand society & social skills
b. Experience:
c. Age: 3-4 year olds
d. Pre-existing knowledge: What they have been taught from their parents & learned from their surroundings.

2. Outline the data you would collect for the contextual analysis, job analysis (if appropriate), and task analysis for your project.

a. Contextual analysis: Factors that may contribute or hinder knowledge acquisition and transfer of learning.
b. Job analysis (if appropriate): Description of the job function. (Position description.)
c. Task analysis: Observation of the steps needed to complete the task at an expert level.
d. Knowledge or performance gap: Current state versus desired state.

3. Provide a rationale for the learning theory that best frames the design of your project.

a. Select a learning theory that supports the design of your course.
b. Support your rationale with an example of how you applied the learning theory.

4. Use two sources to support your writing. Choose sources that are credible, relevant, and appropriate. Cite each source listed on your source page at least one time within your homework.

Format your homework according to the give formatting requirements:

1. The answer must be double spaced, typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.

2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the course title, the student's name, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.

3. Also include a reference page. The references and Citations should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
