For this first autobiographical assignment I want to get to know you through a film or television show that is personally relevant to you: either your favorite or one that has had a significant impact on you. Answer some or all of the questions in a 800 - 1,000 words response. Remember: these responses will remain private - only I will see them.
1. Narrative reconstruction: describe your favorite program and why you enjoy it?
2. When did you watch it, where, and why?
3. Affective response: explain your emotional responses to the media program. What aspects do you personally relate to? What does this reveal about your interests, attitudes, and values? Do you often tell people that you like this show or film, or is it something you prefer not to share? Why?
4. Are there similarities between this media text and your everyday life? Explain.
5. Identify favorite characters and what you like/dislike about them? What attributes made you choose that character? Are they similar or dissimilar to you? Would you like to emulate the character?
6. In what way does the program construct a reality that is different than your everyday experience? Be specific. Tell me anything else you'd like to mention about your favorite television or film.
