Option #1: A Moment from Your Day
Take a moment from your day and narrate how it unfolds. For example, describe an experience at the checkout counter or people's reactions as they wait for the bus. In addition to the people involved, concentrate on the surroundings. What sights, smells, tastes, and sounds did you experience? Write an original descriptive narrative paragraph that tells a story or makes a point. Include an eye-catching introduction, descriptive and sensory details, and a concluding sentence that makes the point.
Option #2: Family Photo
Choose a family photo of which you are a part, and writa descriptive paragraph that tells a story about that photograph. You can answer questions like these:
- What were you doing or what was going on?
- What else was happening around you?
- What specific details that stands out in your mind?
- Was the picture located in relation to where you were?
- What did your surroundings look like?
- What sights, smells, sounds, and tastes were in the air, and how did they make you feel?
- What were you feeling at the time?
Include an eye-catching introduction, descriptive and sensory details, and a concluding sentence that makes the point.The guidelines for this assignment are:
Length: This assignment should be one paragraph or at least a page
Header: Include a header, double-space in the upper left-hand corner of your writing assignment with the following information:
- Your first and last name
- Course Title (Developmental Writing)
- Assignment name (Descriptive Narrative Paragraph)
- Current Date
Format:
- Standard 12 point font
- 1" margins on all sides
- Double-spacing throughout
- Page numbers, along with your last name, in the upper-right corner of each page
- Save the file using one of the following extensions: .docx, .doc, .rtf, or .txt
