Science or Science?
Carl Sagan once said, "Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge." (Science Quotes. (n.d.) )
To illustrate America's deep confidentiality in science, consider the areas in which it permeates our society: we rely upon scientific promises when we purchase chemically enhanced foods, we entrust our finances to scientifically founded banking systems, we believe in dramatized TV stories because they are backed by scientific communities. These are just a few examples of the ways science is slowly but surely evolving into the new foundation of truth- Science. This Science could become detrimental to society for three reasons. First, when Science becomes the standard of truth, even basic morality is at risk. History reveals multiple tragedies which took place under the guise of "scientific" advances including the Holocaust in 1933 and the ignition of the Chernobyl in 1986.
Second, our textbook argues that even "authority... has got to be judged by science." (Babcock, Michael A. The Story of Western Culture. (2011) ) When we begin to cross out rules because we don't consider them to be scientifically necessary, we might rob ourselves of valuable experience. Older individuals often have insight that is good. Just because their methods of conducting business or maintaining relationships have never been calculated doesn't mean they are worthless. According to James 3:13, "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom." (NIV) Third, by employing the scientific method, people may discount Christianity based upon their inductive reasoning. If someone has a few specific encounters which shed negative attention upon Christ, that person may conclude that generally all Christians are frauds or liars. The modern scientific method, used this way, distorts the truth in a way that cannot be proven by reasoning or experimentation.
