Hypothesis testing to relate exercise and mental

Your friend John tells you about a recent study in which researchers find evidence of an association between physical exercise and mental health. John doesn't remember what type of research method was used in the study, but he argues that the findings suggest that if an individual increases the amount that they exercise, their mental health should subsequently improve.

You decide to test the hypothesis that exercise improves mental health with the use of an experimental research design. Describe, in detail, the steps that you would take to set-up and carry out such an experiment. Specifically outline each step of the experiment process. In your description, be sure to explain: (1) who and how many participants you would recruit (2) how you would measure ‘mental health', (3) how you would manipulate the independent variable, (4) how the experiment would confirm or disconfirm John's hypothesis (i.e. if his hypothesis is correct, what would you expect to find?)
