PART 1:
You are the new Assistant Director of HIM at Liberty Hospital. The HIM Director has to sit in on a meeting right after lunch and it is now 8:45 am. She wants you to use online research tools to develop a quick PowerPoint (no more than 12 slides) answering the following questions as they relate to HR management and the HIM Department:
When is the right time to give promotions?
What is job sharing and how can it be used effectively in the HIM department?
What are the effects of downsizing, termination and layoffs in healthcare?
What constitutes an effective employee disciplinary process?
The Director also asks you to prepare a brief job description for an emerging role of a manager or supervisor in health information management so she can show others at the meeting how HIM has changed over the last 10 years.
Research various job description templates and use one that best fits what you are trying to achieve in this short amount of time.

From the job description that you prepared, develop at least 5 items to be used in a tool for a performance appraisal based on role and responsibilities you identified in your job description.
PART 2:
Directions: Most of your entry-level employees were hired with very little work experience. They are a good group in that they are hard-working and want to learn. Unfortunately, they do not have all the skills needed to perform their jobs. This problem has resulted in breaches of privacy, subpoenas not arriving in court on time, wrong charts being pulled, misfiles and deficiencies assigned to the wrong physicians. Their frustration level is high, which sometimes manifests itself in rudeness to the customers.
Develop a training plan for each of the following HIM functional areas:
1. Release of Information area
2. Reception area
3. Record Analysis area
Include the specific topics to be covered, the amount of time you plan to devote to training for each group, and how you will cover their responsibilities during the training.
How could a virtual environment be incorporated into the training plan?
How do you prioritize who gets trained first and what type of training is conducted first?
Prepare the training plans separately (they should be on separate pages).
Lastly, answer the prioritization and virtual environment questions in at least two paragraphs on a separate page.
