Execute a hypothesis test using the critical value method

Hypothesis testing of equality of two proportions.

Someone makes the claim that women are discouraged from working in technical jobs (call this job type 1) at a factory, but have a better chance of being employed in assembly jobs (call this job type 2). You want to find out if there is evidence to back up this assertion. You gather data, and find that in a random sample of 40 workers in job 1, 20 are women, and in a random sample of 50 workers in job 2, 28 are women.

a. status the null and alternative hypotheses.

b. compute the proportion of women in sample 1, sample 2, and overall.

c. compute the sample statistic and standard error you will use to create the test statistic.

d. execute a hypothesis test using the critical value method and an alpha level of .05.

e. explain the type of error that you might be making.
