One of the many ways in which professionals in the human services field can help clients solve problems involves identifying the client's unique abilities and resources. This mindset is referred to as a strengths-based approach. Approaches that are strengths-based in nature, according to Pattoni (2012), "concentrate on the inherent strengths of individuals, families, groups and organizations, deploying personal strength to aid recovery and empowerment" (p. 3). In this discussion, you will consider where and how this perspective might be utilized during client assessment.
Prior to completing this discussion, read Chapters 14 through 18, in addition to this week's Instructor Guidance, and then view the video segment from Films on Demand titled One Uninsured Family (3:42). After viewing the clip, consider the circumstances presented, and determine how you might implement the strengths-based empowerment approach if you were conducting an assessment on Jody Beal. B. Assess specific aspects of Jody's circumstances that you would consider as strengths, which will include
