Mariela how do you incorporate these attributes of emotional intelligence into your life?

Do you find that your terminal and instrumental values have an impact on what you view as success in your career? In my experience, my values play a major role in how I view my career success. Personal relationships matter more to me than money. My idea of career success is having the daily opportunity to motivate and inspire my students. If I valued money more than relationships; I would be conflicted in a career as a teacher and would most likely not view myself as successful.

Class as you consider emotional intelligence, do you use one of the methods - self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management? If so, what method and why? If not, why not? This this question counts for participation.

I use the self-management method in my life right now I work for the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities. I work alone with a cleaning crew when I ‘m out in the communitywith my crew there's nobody but me to manage them. I use this method because it keeps me on my toes. When your out there by yourself you have to make decisions about what to do where to go. Everything and everybody on my crewdepends on me.

Emotional intelligence and self-leadership

Emotional intelligence refers to the capability of an individual to understand and also supervise his or her own emotions, and those of the people surrounding that person. Individuals with a greater degree of EI tend to have a know-how of what they are feeling, the meaning of their emotions as well as how their emotions impact the other people. This makes it be one of the important elements that leaders must posses to succeed (Yaghoubi, Mashinchi, & Abdollahi, 2010). Leaders need to be aware of their feelings as well as being in a position to recognize their strengths and weaknesses that makes them act with a lot of humility. These acts will lead to proper management in their places of work. It is also essential for leaders to be in a position to have self-regulation that is aimed at controlling themselves not to attack their workers anyhow. This leads to leaders getting to be in a position of being accountable to them. Leaders need to have self-motivation that will automatically boost the morale of the other workers making thus impacting in production and self-leadership. Finally, leaders need to have empathy that enables them to put themselves to the position of the junior staffs and make their decisions based on what they feel is right for the juniors (Yaghoubi, Mashinchi, & Abdollahi, 2010).

Terminal and instrumental values

Instrumental values are used to refer to the detailed methods of actions. These values tend to provide us with the means of reaching the end. On a personal note I usually feel that I have instrumental values such as being imaginative and independent as well as being able to bring forth strong and achievable ambitions (Melikyan, Akhmetzhanov, & Hovakimyan, 2007). On the other hands, terminal values refer to the values that most people think are important or most desirable to possess. Based on these, I tend to possess happiness, recognition, self-respect, and professional excellence. Of all these values, that of being ambitious and professional excellence is valid predictors of career success as they guide a person's career path making him or her to get successful at the last (Melikyan, Akhmetzhanov, & Hovakimyan, 2007).

Work-family conflict

The kind of job that am engaged in daily basis has for long been serving me well and I have a positive feeling that all my needs are met by the kind of job that I engage in. This is because I meet all my basic needs with ease and without struggling as well as making some savings at the end of the day. Again, the accomplishments that am making in the place of work are making me feel that am defining my self fully and to details. The outcomes of what am doing my job can be used by individuals to truly define who I am and what am capable of doing as an individual (Stuart, Fondacaro, Miller, Brown, & Brank, 2008).

On a daily basis I tend to work so hard so that I achieve what I am supposed to achieve as a person based on the goals that I have set. The sole purpose of working hard is achieving my goals at the right time. The hard work has gone a mile extra to sacrificing some of my time to accomplish any task that I have not accomplished during the normal working hours. This sacrifice has led to some misunderstanding with close family members who are looking forward to spending some extra time with me. As a result, it is good to take time and reflect on the effect of what I am sacrificing in expense to my family well-being and relations. This will help in coming up with the appropriate solution for the kind f job that I engage in like organizing for holidays after a given period to interact with my family, and giving my work the attention that it requires. Again, to make sure that I spend only the required time in my job, I will try to allocate some to the junior staffs and ask for assistance where appropriate.
