The concept of an online portfolio was something new to me. I think that this concept, while it could be a good idea, would have some flaws if it was fully instituted in the common workplace. They are saying that this provides an opportunity for students to "show, don't tell" in their resumes, but I think that the online portfolio would be the opposite. In most cases, it would be college graduates listing off the classes they took and what skills they learned from them which I think would be overkill. Overall, I think that there are better ways to determine a graduate's skill sets, such as their experience if they have any and their academic achievements. I do think, however, that this system could be productive for helping people with lots of prior work experience, but no college experience to get jobs in the workplace even though they do not have a degree.

My thoughts on this article are both positive and negative because of my stance on the matter of showing your work in a portfolio. I believe that if a person expresses the desire to seek a career in journalism for example, then they should be required to show previous work that they have done to give a glimpse into their writing style. The way you write says a lot about your creative thinking believe it or not. I also believe that there are instances where a portfolio is useless because your interview does not require you to potentially show any experience at all. It is a well-known fact that not all college students get a well-paying job after graduating and some don't get jobs at all. My feeling towards this is why even have a portfolio if you are not going into a field that requires it. The resume should speak for itself in the manner of a regular job with no expereience required.We finally made it to the last week of class! It was a pleasure working with you all!

Let me preface this by saying I detest HR. I can't stand the thought of someone who doesnt know a wheel from a lugnut, evaluating me for a job as a mechanic. Anyway, Resumes are mostly useless nowadays, but companies are loathe to try and get with modern times and use the technology available....I blame this on HR people trying to save their jobs. One can write a perfect resume without a shred of proof that the candidate actually accomplished any of those key skills required. This sort of stuff goes on all the time now with the plethora of resume builders out there.

Therefore, I am a big advocate of an e-portfolio. As a person who has evaluated talent before, I would much rather look at physical proof of a persons accomplishments than some pretty piece of paper with flowery phrases and words used to trigger off some computer scan. I say do away with resumes and give me an e-portfolio with an attached video resume.

I believe that online resumes will definitely entirely wipe out the traditional paper form. Online resumes will also acquire adjustments as to recruit more efficiently. Two features that will help prospective employees market themselves to recruiters are; provide links to works of achievement, such as PDF certificates, and the other feature is to display technical skills to cover up weaknesses in communication. Non-native speakers who are highly technically skilled would be mutually beneficial for the respective company. These technical skills could be conveyed through links to specific knowledge or achievements in the field.
