The criminal justice system in the United States is continually criticized by citizens using all available forms of social media and biased news reporting. Do you believe the use of social media has a negative or positive impact on the criminal justice system? Explain your answer.
Social media has a positive impact on the media when the information release is accurate. Often the race is on to be the first person to put things out before gathering all the facts which misleads or incites the public unnecessarily. The need for likes and views overshadows the need for truth and investigation. The flip side is the speed in which so many people can be reach and the amount of information that can go out so fast. When there is information that should and needs to be shared to affect us all it is impactful. Knowing the outcomes of cases, changes in laws, and the influence judicial decisions will have on our lives is very important. For some people, social media is there only form of contact and the place the depend on for all their information. The court system must be more open and strive to use social media as a resource as oppose to viewing it as a burden.
