Assignment:
1. Select your own country of nationality to do this assignment. You are to write an essay analyzing it from the business culture perspective by covering the following points:
a. Discuss the national culture dimensions of your country using Hofstede's framework (hint; you may want to read more about it at https://geerthofstede.com/national-culture.html ). Give supporting evidence not only from Hofstede's website but from other sources.
i. Compare your country to the U.S.A. using the "country comparison" tool found at https://geert-hofstede.com/countries.html. (if your nationality country of citizenship is already the USA, then compare it to another country of your choice)
b. Discuss the cultural type of your country from the perspective of Richard Lewis' framework. (Do an online search about it and use the class material as a starter, corroborate your analysis with various sources including our library's databases especially the "Global Road Warrior" database)
c. Discuss your own position and your country's position as it relates to Erin Meyer's eight-scale culture map. In addition to the material supplied in class, you will find more information from the internet like https://hbr.org/web/assessment/2014/08/whats-your-cultural-profile , where you must take the quiz to compare your cultural profile to that of your country. If your country is not on the list please inform your professor and you will be directed as to what to do instead). In the analysis you should create a chart like the one shown below and discuss every scale including major gaps between your own score and that of your national culture maybe you have lived outside of the culture for too long and the host culture has influenced your values, maybe your parents came from different cultures and they influenced your values, etc.)
d. Share a specific story where any or all of the three frameworks can be seen in action. In other words, relate a situation or anecdote either from personal experience or that of friends/relatives where the theory studied so far comes alive and is illustrated. The anecdote can be a funny situation, or a cultural blunder where you learned a lesson or made you understand different values or points of view.
