Sn1 reaction, synthesis of 2,5-dichloro-2,5-dimethylhexane from 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-hexanediol with hydrochloric acid. What would be the structure of the potential E1 product? Could this from if sulfuric acid was added to 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-hexanediol instead of hydrochloric acid? why? not sure answer but explanation is needed too! thanks a lot in advance.
