Computing the reaction and tension in the cable


Question1) The turbine shown in Figure given below develops 100 hp when the flowrate of water is 20ft^3/s. If all losses are negligible, find out:

(a) the elevation h

(b) the pressure difference across the turbine, and

(c) the flowrate expected if the turbine were removed.

Question2) A force P of magnitude 90 lb is applied to member ACE , that is supported by the friction less pin at D and by the cable ABE. As the cable passes over a small pulley at B, the tension might be assumed to be the same in portion AB and BE of the cable. For the case when a = 3, determine

(a) the tension in the cable,

(b) the reaction at D.
