Compute the maximum arrival rate that can be supported by

Question: Consider a number of nodes that communicate to a central server through a shared link exploiting an FDMA channel scheme. The transmission parameters are τp = 1 s, packets are L = 1000 bytes long and are transmitted at the constant bit rate Rb = 10 Mbit/s. The packet arrival process at each node is Poisson with parameter λ.

a) Compute the maximum arrival rate that can be supported by this access scheme so that the average delay will be smaller than 100 ms when there are 10 nodes in the system.

b) Now, consider λ = 10 packet/s and compute the maximum number of nodes that can be supported by this system so that the total average delay for their delivery to the server is smaller than 100 ms.
