Collaborative writing

Assignment:

Pretend you interviewed a business person job includes some form of collaborative writing. This may be a college dean, a nursing supervisor, a bank manager, or a police detective--anyone who is involved with collaborative writing on a regular basis.

Create a list of at least 6 questions about collaborative writing on the job and record your data.

(Some ideas for questions include: planning, drafting, handling revisions, positive/negative experiences, handling conflicts, scheduling for deadlines, etc.).

For your assignment, write a one-paragraph introduction of the interviewee and his/her job description in order to place your interview into a context for the reader.

Format your interview report as Questions and Answers. Record the answers in complete sentences.

End your paper with a MLA Personal Interview Citation. Create a citation for the interview using the MLA guide for a Personal Interview citation.

Types of collaborative writing include monthly reports, requests for proposals (RFPs), government audits, annual reports, or any tasks that require collaborative writing.

The interview should focus on the collaborative writing tasks handled by the interviewee; it should NOT be a general interview about the interviewee's job. This is NOT an exercise in interviewing. It is an exercise in using primary research to learn more about the challenges and rewards of collaborative writing.
