Cell division-sexual reproduction-genetic variability

Cell division, sexual reproduction and genetic variability:

Eukaryotic cells can be divided by mitosis or meiosis. In humans, mitosis generates new cells for growth and repair; meiosis generates sex cells (that is, gametes) termed as sperm and eggs.

However mutations are the ultimate source of the genetic variability, both meiosis and sexual reproduction as well can contribute to the new genetic combinations in offspring.

Q1. How do both meiosis and sexual reproduction (that is, fertilization) generate offspring which vary genetically from the parents?

Q2. Be sure to talk regarding the steps in meiosis which increase variability and also the method of fertilization.
