A vehicle has an inline 6 engine with a total displacement of 2979 cm3 and a compression ratio of 10.2. From the technical specifications, the maximum pressure supported by the cylinder casing and injection valve operation is 20 MPa. Assume ideal air standard approximation, and the pressure at the beginning of compression has been turbocharged to 0.8 bar above standard atmospheric pressure, and the temperature is roughly ambient at 300 K. Calculate the pressures, temperatures and specific volumes for each state in the cycle. Calculate the specific works input and output, and specific heats input and output, for each of the four processes of the cycle. Calculate the total work output, ideal efficiency, mean effective pressure and the theoretical power output at a peak 5800 rpm (assuming 3 of the 6 cylinders are delivering the power stroke during each cycle). If the manufacturer claims a 225 kW (302 hp) power, what is the actual efficiency of the engine ?
