Microbes are all around us and are controlled and exploited by man for food, drink and fuel production, sewage disposal, degradation of dead animal and plant cells, and a number of other vital life processes. Choose 6 microbes that are either of benefit or cause spoilage within the brewing and/or distilling industries. For each, give the genus and species name, state whether it is used in production or causes problems to the process or product. Also provide information on cell size and shape and methods that may be used to detect and identify each microbe.

Word limit guideline: 2,500 for each assignment (not including diagrams/tables). Please ensure that all information sources are correctly referenced.
