Assignment Description:
As the coding manager, you have been directed by the HIM Director to conduct an audit of specific DRG's. You have been instructed to audit DRG's whose principle diagnosis would be CHF. Unspecified Pneumonia, or COPD. There is an average of 5,000 discharges per year for each of these principle diagnoses.
1. Identify the DRG's to be audited
2. Determine how many charts to be audited
3. Construct an audit template to be used to review the charts
4. Develop a step-by-step procedure for the audit
Parameters:
Create an audit process
1. Submit an audit template. This may be developed in Excel or as Word Document. It should be a single page form that can be used to review each record.
2. Submit a Word document. The Word document should include:
a. An introductory paragraph explaining which DRG's are being audited
b. In the introductory paragraph explain how many charts will be reviewed and how they will be selected.
c. Provide a step-by-step procedure as to how the audit will be conducted.
