Appropriate null hypothesis

A McDougalls Quarter pounder is supposed to have a mean weights of 4 ounces. McDougall's will fined if its hamburgers, on a average weigh too much. John Jay, the city weigh inspector, will weigh some McDougalls hambergurgers and only fine McDougalls if the hamburgers are significantly overweight. He tests the weights at the .03 level of significance. John Jay takes a random sample of 23 Quarer Pounders. they have a mean weight of 4.08 ounces with a standard deviation of .17 ounces assume burger weights are normally distributed.

a) What is an appropriate null hypothesis, H0?

b) What should the alternative hypothesis, Ha, be?

c) What test statistic should John jay use? ( Formula)

d) De we need the central Limit Theorem? Why

e) Does your test statistic have a t or a nomal distribution ?

f) If your test statistic has a t distribuion then how many degrees of freedom does it have?

g) What is the critical value for your test ?

h) What value does the test statistic take on with Jay's data?

i) Does Jay reject null hypothesis?

j) Calculate the P- value of this test.
