1 read some critics of our current constitutional system

1. Read Some critics of our current constitutional system argue that the Framers made a mistake in selecting a federal system over a unitary system and that much of the problems of governance today, even the onset of the Civil War, could have been avoided. In your opinion, what would have been the specific advantages or disadvantages of such a change? What would that change mean today in terms of individual freedoms? What would it mean in terms of public services? How would that change impact the important core values of American political culture?

2. Read I believe have if the United States had a unitary it would cause for chaos within our nation, because today's society already does not like the amount of power the government has now. The definition of a unitary government is "the power is held by one central authority." We currently have a federal government which is defined as "the power is divided between national (federal) government and local (state) governments." The main advantages of having a unitary government are the system is only a legislative branch, and they use the tax payers more efficiently. Also the government can manage the economy better, and their main focus is themselves instead of state legislature. Some of the disadvantages are not having the state government to send troops in case of an emergency, and the national government would probably take forever to respond. Also local issues would be replaced by national issues, and many of them would go unresolved. I doubt our individual freedoms would be as diverse as they currently are, if we even had any, and the restrictions would probably be outrageous. Our public services would dramatically decrease because the national government normally funds projects like this, and they would probably use that money according to what they see fit. The only way public services could stay the same is if the communities raised their own profit to keep these organizations going, and half of today's society is already in the lower class so I doubt they could afford to fund the organizations themselves. It would impact our culture, because we have certain rights that every citizen should be able to obtain at birth, and the amendments the United States has would probably disappear. The main problem our society has is freedom of speech and also how to distribute equality properly. I am content with the decision the Framers made about how our government should function, even though society does not necessarily agree with some of the government's decision, but it could be completely different in a unitary government.
