STLS: POP utilizes the Transmission Control Protocol on port number 110. Transmission might be encrypted by using Transport Layer Security (TLS) or Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). It is negotiated in the POP3 protocol by using the STLS command. Some clients & servers, such as Google Gmail, rather use the deprecated alternate-port method that uses TCP port 995 (POP3S).
