What is osmotic pressure

Osmotic pressure (OP) is the pressure formed in an aqueous solution by a region of lower solute concentration on a region of high solute concentration forcing the passage of water from that to this more concentrated region. Intensity of the osmotic pressure (in units of pressure) is equivalent to the pressure which is essential to apply in the solution to avoid its dilution by entering of water by osmosis.
