A file is defined as the named collection of the related information that is stored upon the secondary storage. The file comprises of either programs or data. A file has particular structure on the basis of its type:
a) File attributes: Name, type, identifier, size, location, time, protection, date.
b) File operations: creation, writing, reading, deleting, repositioning, truncating, appending, renaming.
c) File types: executable, object, library, source code etc.
