What do you mean by the term VOIP? Illustrate in brief.

Voice over IP (VoIP) is an IP telephony word for a set of facilities which are used to manage the delivery of voice information over Internet. VoIP includes sending voice information in digital form in discrete packets instead of by using the traditional circuit-committed protocols of the PSTN (public switched telephone network). The main benefit of VoIP and Internet telephony is that it ignores the tolls charged by ordinary telephone service.
