The system of influential law by following already decided cases or precedent is called as stare decisis, a Latin phrase meaning of stare decisis is "to stand by a previous decision." Similarly we want the law to be flexible enough to relate the changing conditions and social attitudes. We need not want to be judged it by out of date principles. Stare decisis involves a preference for the objective of change and achieving consistency.
